What the estimate uses
The dollar range is a percentage of the annual bill you enter: 70 to 90 percent before shade. We value that energy at a built-in state average rate, which is a simple way of saying the illustration assumes offset power is worth about what the average household pays.
Peak sun hours from the same table turn that usage into an illustrated system size, with a 77 percent factor for ordinary losses. Shade, if you tell us, lowers the range. The 25-year figure is 20 to 25 times the annual number. It is not a forecast, and it is not net of the cost of equipment.
The calculator works for any matched U.S. ZIP code. It uses that state's average, whether or not we publish a page for it. We currently publish location notes for twelve states. A ZIP outside those states can still be submitted. A few rows from the national table:

These are approximate inputs, not your utility tariff. Pages for a few places live under solar by place. A ZIP code that we can match works even when that state has no page of its own.
Questions homeowners ask
Is this a government program?
No. American Solar Savings is not a government agency and is not affiliated with one. We do not offer a government solar program.
Is the equipment free?
No. Solar is equipment you buy or finance. There is no charge to use this estimate or to request a call. That is not an offer of free equipment.
How is the estimate calculated?
We take the monthly bill you enter and a built-in state average electricity rate, and we illustrate offsetting 70 to 90 percent of the annual bill. Peak sun hours from that same table sketch a system size, with a 77 percent factor for ordinary losses such as heat and an inverter. If you tell us the roof is shaded, the range comes down. The 25-year number is simply 20 to 25 times the annual figure. It is not a prediction, and it ignores the cost of the system.
Will this match a quote?
No. Your utility rate, export credit, roof, and equipment price can all move the real numbers. We label the result an estimate. A specialist would have to look at the house before anyone should call it a quote.
Who will call me?
American Solar Savings, or a solar partner we introduce you to. The consent checkbox is the agreement for those calls and messages. You can say no on the call.
Do I have to own the home?
An installation usually needs the owner’s permission. You can still request a call if you are not the owner. We pass that answer along.
What does the call cost?
We do not charge you for the estimate or the call. If you agree to texts, your carrier’s message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of texts.
